It was certainly on a more even playing field than the way things were for Mary and Angus. So the romance got much better, but I think I ended up just expecting something completely different as I continued reading. I kept imagining that there would be a sense of urgency. If you are a fan, you ought to pick up this book. If, like me, you find yourself wishing that characters would postpone getting it on until actually saving siblings from mortal peril, you ought to read something else. Dec 20, Gaylynn rated it liked it.
I enjoyed the book as the story was fairly fast paced and the characters likable overall. As the norm with romances, I was more than willing to overlook the seemingly impossible coincidences and good luck of the main characters not to mention strange plot devices like having everyone travel all over the British Isle just to hand off a blackmail payment between two parties who both live in London! For a long time, it wasn't clear I enjoyed the book as the story was fairly fast paced and the characters likable overall. That said, the first page states that William has been a captain of his own ship for 15 years.
Maybe I am missing something?? My other issue is that the book states that William is the only man Marcail has ever been with. Nov 11, Once Upon a Twilight rated it really liked it. He follows her to get it back, only to find out it has been taken from her as well, and now the fun begins.
Forced together now in a journey to find the amulet, they soon discover that their previous relationship was sabotage by her secrets to help her family and his possessiveness and jealousy that prevented her trust and are now faced with their renewed feeling and passion. The flare of old feelings, romance and passion is added to the mystery and suspense of the story to make it fun and entertaining. Some of the questions are answer and new surprises appear to hint and spike your interest on whom the probable love interest and new adventure is going to be for the other Hurst brothers in the coming sequel.

William is another of the Hurst brothers and the amulet is finally safely in William's hands ready to be sent back to Egypt to free their brother the story starts in the first novel and is best to read it first. He meets an old flame who broke his heart and she steals the amulet to satisfy a blackmailer.

We soon find that Marcail is not the brazen horrible beauty she seems to be, but also someone who is desperately trying to save her family from ruin and left William for the same reasons.
The box is stolen before the truth comes out, but William is still willing to find out who her blackmailer is as well as gaining the stolen item back. And while I did like Marcail in the end, I still can't say I fully identified with her either. I did enjoy William's part and wouldn't mind adding a handsome captain like him to my man harem. The next book involves the brother, Robert, and I think that one is going to be a wild ride. Especially when it seems his intended is a thief and con artist.
Apr 30, Aislynn rated it really liked it Shelves: This was my first time reading Karen Hawkins, and I have to say it won't be my last! I've actually gone and picked up the first book in this series!! When I initially picked this book, I didn't realize it was part of a series - and I have to say I loved the first book too!
William's brother is being held prisoner in Egypt until a certain object - a gold and onyx box - is returned in exchange for his brother's release. Unfortunately this object is stolen from William as he is leaving port. A young This was my first time reading Karen Hawkins, and I have to say it won't be my last!
A young woman from his past Marcail is the culprit! I love the chemistry between these two characters. They have a past, once lovers - who didn't part well. They are reunited, actually thrown together by fate. William tracks Marcail down to retrieve the box, but ends up rekindling some old feelings. These two have great banter and a few hot steamy interludes! As well, we meet Robert Hurst and Moira Muir the characters from the third book in the series "Seduced in Scotland" that comes out in October! I couldn't put this book down, it had me hooked from page 1 until the very last sentence!

The slow, agonizing deception held within the bonds of a drug-induced state was felt. Set within the romantic confines of close quarters, it had a lusty build-up, an anticipation of love renewed despite the tugging and pulling of unselfish needs. Bonding of the two main characters against a common enemy revealed a deeper look at their maturity level and acceptance of each other.
Clues to the mystery of the artifact and the enemy were timed nicely. My review was based on the paperback edition. For the most part, I enjoyed the read, it had great adventure, a mystery that continues from Mary's book previously and will go on with Robert's book next. And as usual with Karen Hawkins books, great characters. The book moves at quite a brisk pace with I do enjoy, there's a lot packed into a small time frame.
I was left a little bit disappointed with the way Marcail and William resolved their issues. There was no big epic moment wher Marcail and William's book, second in the Hurst family series. There was no big epic moment where William was able to defeat Marcail's enemies in terms of what it meant when she originally chose to leave him. I would have liked to see that before their HEA but that's just me being picky!
Definitely recommend this one. William Hurst has what he needs to free his brother in his hands, only to lose it to Marcail Beauchamp, his past lover.
If you read the series from the beginning you will have a moment of trouble getting into Marcail's character because in past books William was either mentioned, or you saw the younger him. But once you get to know her you see her differently. These two are a great match and the road to their love is bumpy, but a great time too.
This book is well worth the read. Mar 13, Tasneem rated it liked it Shelves: Marcail and William are a wonderfully volatile couple and their coming together allows them to finally put to rest the trouble that forced them apart.
Series: Hurst Amulet
I enjoyed seeing their growing honesty with each other. William had been led to believe that it was his lack of fortune and position that had made Marcail leave him. However, it was done so that she could protect him from causing a fuss with the Prince Regent. Her supposed romance with Colchester was merely a way of saving her from the Regent and Marcail and William are a wonderfully volatile couple and their coming together allows them to finally put to rest the trouble that forced them apart.
