Therefore the School of the Holy Spirit makes sure that the redeemed does not just know how to live in plenty; he must also know how to live in poverty. The abundant life of God is in his word and not in our possessions.

He takes him through the fire, so that he may know that he cannot be burnt.
He takes him through the waters so that he may know that he will not drown. He is made to understand both life and death in order that neither can overwhelm or faze him. This book was an excellent and penetrating look into the spiritual life. It really challenges one to follow God's will in its entirety and at all times. This is not only His universal publicly revealed will but His moment by moment inspiration of the Baptized soul. This author is amazingly accessible and writes on the essential topic of docility to the Holy Spirit. It is extremely short. I recommend it highly! Mar 06, Fr. It was a quick read and I plan to reread it to gain more inight into following the inspirations of the Holy Spirit.

Aug 25, Sasha rated it it was amazing. This book is the perennial go-to book for developing a closer relationship with the Holy Spirit. It's short, its meaty, and there's absolutely no fluff here, and yet its not difficult to read or get through.

Therese used the expression: This consent, inspired by love and trust, makes us free and active instead of passive, and enables God to draw good out of everything that happens to us whether good or bad. Be willing to give up your own ideas, points of view, and ways of doing things. Make sure that the way in which you want things is also good. True inspirations always go in the direction of a spirit of obedience to the Church. Francis de Sales 2. A tree is known by its fruit — Jesus gives us this most important criterion.
Inspirations from God will produce sound fruit: Since this can only be applied retrospectively, make sure to reflect of these experiences and be more aware of possible fruit during the actual experience. Experience Building up our experience: Peace is the most characteristic factor. Be aware though that our initial resistance can cause trouble at first.
A sure test of true humility is the spirit of obedience. Experience proves this to be true and this is the real test, not in philosophical arguments. A relationship of love with God solves this dilemma. Love resolves the contradiction between two freedoms: Loving means losing our freedom freely in order to find and possess God, and ultimately finding ourselves and our true freedom in Him.
It could even be said that the only way we can win our freedom is by obeying God. God is the source of freedom, so Submission to God will only oppose what actually limits us in life.
